At the foot of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the police fire a military cannon from World War II, to signal sunset marking the end of the fasting day for Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims traditionally used the cannon because it “was the loudest sound that could be heard throughout the city” says a member of the Burj Khalifa Cannon Police.
