More than 200 participants attended this conference held at Orchard Hotel on 13 August 2019, where former diplomats, policymakers and experts discussed the rising tensions between the United States and Iran following the US’ withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and imposition of unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
Among the speakers were former US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and Iranian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyed Mohammad Kazem Sajjadpour. Topics covered included the roots and aims of the American policy of “maximum pressure” on Iran, consequences of US actions, and the Iranian response. The conference also looked at the impact of a prolonged crisis on Asia’s economies.
