We are pleased to announce that Professor Joseph Liow has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Management Board of the Middle East Institute (MEI), NUS, effective September 1, 2024. Prof Liow is the Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, and a Professor at the School of Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University. His extensive experience and understanding of the Middle East will be invaluable in guiding MEI’s future direction.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to Mr Bilahari Kausikan for his outstanding leadership and dedication as the Chairman of MEI over the past seven years. Under his stewardship, MEI has significantly advanced its mission to foster greater understanding of the Middle East region, enhancing the institute’s reputation and influence among government stakeholders and beyond. To smooth the transition, Mr Kausikan has accepted MEI’s request to remain as an Honorary Fellow.

Please join us in welcoming Professor Liow to his new role, and in thanking Mr Kausikan for his contributions to MEI.
