Sara Bazoobandi Gives Interview on Iran’s Economic Woes

MEI Visiting Research Fellow Dr. Sara Bazoobandi recently gave an interview to the Persian website Arseh Sevom (The Third Arena) about the troubled economic situation in Iran due to international sanctions. She addresses the sanctions’ effects on elements such as the crime rate and health care as well as civil society more generally, and she also comments on the lack of confidence in the Islamic Republic’s domestic economy. “Some of the current issues in the Iranian economy are not directly caused by the oil embargo or the sanctions on the financial sector,” she explains. “Instead they are by-products of the lack of confidence in the domestic economy due to the international sanctions.”
