Michael Hudson Interviewed by CNA on Jordan’s Elections

Yesterday, MEI Director Michael C. Hudson gave an interview to Channel News Asia on the topic of the Jordanian parliamentary elections. Hudson remarked that King Abdullah II is hoping to reestablish a greater sense of legitimacy through these elections after an increase in dissent and protest over the past two years. However, the well-organized political party the Islamic Action Front, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, boycotted the elections along with other significant parties. Hudson noted that such boycotts will take away from the credibility of the election results. “The country may continue to sink into greater instability,” he said. “That would be quite dangerous given Jordan’s strategic position in the region.”
