ABSTRACT:

Since March 2011, 110,000 people is said to have died in Syria, in what has been described as the bloodiest civil war in the history of the Middle East. Specialists on Syria from Georgetown University (appearing via Skype) and the National University of Singapore will collaborate to analyze the latest developments in the Syria crisis, a conflict in which the outside powers are increasingly involved. Issues to be dealt with include the August 21 chemical weapons attack and the US-Russian diplomatic initiative, the causes and dynamics of the uprising, the refugee humanitarian crisis, US policy, the role of Iran, the Gulf states and other regional actors. Join us for a complete picture of what is going on and what could potentially happen.
