The Middle East Peace Process After the Arab Uprisings
NUS Middle East Institute proudly presents
The Middle East Peace Process
After the Arab Uprisings
OVERVIEW
Twenty-five years after the Middle East Peace Conference took place in Madrid, a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains elusive. A recent French initiative to re-launch the peace talks that collapsed in April 2014 will take place in Paris this summer. What prospects do these talks have, given the unrest in the occupied territories since October 2015, and the transformative changes that have been taking place elsewhere in the Middle East since 2011?
This one-day conference aims to take stock of developments since Madrid, from the secret negotiations that paved the way for the Oslo Accords, to the Second Palestinian Intifada, the wars in Gaza, Palestine’s bid to join the United Nations as a member state, and the Arab Uprisings that began in 2011. With speakers who are experts and game players in the conflict from Israel, Palestine, the United Kingdom, Qatar, and the United States, Singaporeans will be given a unique insight into the dynamics of a very old, yet enduring conflict.
In order to facilitate a healthy discussion, Chatham House Rules is imposed on ALL attendees of the conference. Seats are limited and are based on first come, first served basis. Only those who receive an email confirmation from the conference committee will be allowed entry to the conference. Registration closes at 5pm on Friday, 20th May. Please forward any queries to meievent@nus.edu.sg.
*Note: The Middle East Institute reserves the right not to allow entry to any person/s even when they provide confirmation email. Please forward any queries to meievent@nus.edu.sg.
