THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS, THE IMF AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Abstract

Professor Michel Chossudovsky will present a brief analysis of the 2008 Global Economic Crisis and its aftermath. He will also give a background of the evolution of the Global Economy with particular reference to the economic policy solutions proposed by the International Monetary (IMF) both in the developing and developed countries. The nature of IMF-World Bank reforms applied in selected countries of the Middle East North African region will also be discussed at length. Among the questions to be addressed here are: What are the social consequences of these reforms? How do these reforms imposed on national governments relate to the “Arab Spring” protest movement?
