GAZA UNDER SIEGE: THE LONG STRUGGLE FOR PALESTINIAN HUMAN RIGHTS

by John Gee

ABSTRACT:

The current conflict in the Gaza Strip should not be seen in isolation. It is just the latest episode in a siege that has continued since Hamas took over control of the area in 2007, and was directed at overthrowing the Hamas administration through measures directed against the territory’s entire population. The military attacks on Gaza are not so much the by-product of a campaign against Hamas as a central tool of that campaign. Peace for Palestinians and Israelis requires respect for Palestinian rights as well as security for Israelis.
