Abstract

The economies of the Gulf Cooperation Council are undergoing transformations to prepare them for a future beyond oil. Join us on June 4 as Dr Monica Malik, Chief Economist of the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, details the economic drivers, trends and outlooks for the countries. Dr Malik’s talk will touch on topics such as the challenges facing the GCC economies, monetary policy, and the progress of the transformation in the various GCC nations, including Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Monica Malik has over 20 years of experience as an economist specialising in the MENA region. She is currently Chief Economist at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, where she established the economic research team. Previously, Dr Malik was the Chief Economist at EFG Hermes and was the lead person in the economics team. Before EFG Hermes, she was the Senior Economist for the MENA region at Standard Chartered, Dubai and at Dun & Bradstreet, London. She has authored a number of academic books and articles on economic development in the GCC and has presented at a number of high-profile conferences and participated in policy round-table discussions. Dr Malik, a regular contributor to the international media, holds a Ph.D. in Economic Development in the Middle East focusing on Private Sector Development in Saudi Arabia from the University of Durham.
