A Roundtable Discussion with Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saidi Former Ambassador of Yemen to the United Nations

Abstract

Ambassador Al-Saidi led a roundtable discussion about the transition to democracy in Arab countries emerging from the tumult of the uprisings, including his home country of Yemen. He compared the experiences of Arab countries to those of Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia during times of political transition.

Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saidi (Former Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations)

Ambassador Al-Saidi is the Former Permanent Representative of the Republic of Yemen to the United Nations (2002-2011).. He currently resides in New York City as a Senior Fellow at t he International Peace Institute. He has also held important government positions, including Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2002 and member of the National Arbitration Committee with Eritrea over the Hanish Islands from 1996 to 2002.
