The Islamic State and its Impact on Middle East and Global Politics
The Islamic State has proven to be a formidable force in Iraq and ‘Greater Syria’ despite persistent air strikes by US and its allies since September 10th. Initial assumptions that its conquests in northern Iraq would tip the scales in favour of Sunnis in the region has been obliterated not only with the resounding condemnation from Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf States, but also with the apparently active participation of these states in the military operation against IS. As it seizes more and more territory across Syria and Iraq, its appeal has also grown among youths in Muslim and Non-Muslim countries across the globe and resulted in the stepping up of counter-terror enforcement almost as high as during the 9/11. How will this seemingly impregnable ’network of evil’ shape the politics of the Middle East and world politics? Join us for a not-to-be-missed discussion by experts on this issue.
