Opening Night for Film -Arzé
Directed by Mira Shaib, Arzé is a poignant and vibrant Lebanese comedy-drama that follows a single mother’s relentless journey through the fractured streets of Beirut. Arzé, played by Diamand Abou Abboud, is determined to buy her teenage son Kinan a scooter so he can deliver her homemade pies—their only source of income. When the scooter is stolen, mother and son embark on a desperate search across sectarian neighborhoods, navigating the city’s complex social and religious divides.
Lebanon’s official submission to the 97th Academy Awards, Arzé is distributed by Singapore-based Hazelnut Media, bringing this heartfelt gem to global screens with humor, heart, and a whole lot of spice.

About the Speakers
Lebanese filmmaker
Mira Shaib is a Lebanese filmmaker whose work fuses cultural authenticity with cinematic flair. Born in Beirut in 1993, she holds degrees from the Lebanese American University and Concordia’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. Her debut feature, Arzé—Lebanon’s official submission to the 97th Academy Awards—premiered at Tribeca and won multiple honors, including Best Actress and Best Screenplay at the Cairo International Film Festival.
An alumna of top development labs like Film Independent and Torino Film Lab, Mira also co-founded Cinema For All, bringing film to rural Lebanon through screenings and workshops. Her acclaimed short films, Lilacs and Still Beirut, have shown at Berlinale Talents and Aswan International Women Film Festival.
Her storytelling reflects emotional depth, social resilience, and a deep commitment to amplifying voices from the margins, shaping Arab cinema with bold, humanistic vision.
