Turkey Piqued by US-Kurdish Alliance
The Trump administration announced on Tuesday its plan to arm Syria’s Kurdish fighters, United States’ (US) key ally against ISIS in Syria. The move, however, has angered Turkey who considers the fighters an extension of a terrorist organisation in Turkey.
In the coming week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet with President Trump to discuss security issues.

Syrian Rebels Liberate Key Syrian city from ISIS
United States (US)-backed rebels were able to wrest the key city of Tabqa from ISIS in a decisive victory, edging closer towards re-capturing ISIS’ self-declared capital, Raqqa, from them. Meanwhile, US-backed forces in Iraq are close to reclaiming Mosul from ISIS and aim to free the city by the end of May.
Life Sentence Meted to Muslim Brotherhood Chief
Mohammed Badie, supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, was sentenced by Egyptian courts to life in prison. Badie, as well as two other prominent leaders of the organisation, had allegedly incited unrest during the protests following the overthrow of former president Mohamed Morsi.
Sisi Stresses Need for Security
Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi concluded his visit to the Gulf region, stressing, among many issues, the need to foster cooperation between countries such as Kuwait and Bahrain to combat terrorism in the Gulf region and to counter foreign intervention in conflicts.
